Are you the climate change adaptation expert that is building towards a climate resilient future and ready for new challenges? We are looking for a medior to senior level advisor / researcher in the field of Climate Adaptation and Climate Resilience, who can demonstrate practical experience with the methods and tools applied in climate change risk assessment and planning, such as robust decision making, adaptive pathways planning, and environmental modelling. In addition we welcome candidates who have already an established network in the field and have demonstrated experience in acquisition and proposal development. The successful candidate should be willing to travel internationally. Affinity with research and development and a customer-oriented attitude are important to us.

What can you expect as advisor/researcher adaptation to climate change?
  • Build and apply tailor made models and tools to support risks assessment and planning;
  • Support the initiation and acquisition of new projects;
  • Communicate with clients to address their needs;
  • Work together in small to large project teams with project managers, specialists and junior advisors.
  • What do we expect from you as advisor/researcher adaptation to climate change?
  • Minimal 5 (medior) to 10 (senior) years of international experience in climate change adaptation studies;
  • A relevant background on methods to support climate adaptation under uncertainty with emphasis on technical analysis skills, such as python, exploratory modelling, GIS.
  • A relevant PhD can be a pre;
  • A relevant network with potential clients;
  • An open and people oriented attitude;
  • You are eager to develop yourself and reflect upon your performance;
  • An entrepreneurial spirit.

In the interaction with the other units / departments of Deltares we create our added value in projects focussing on integrated water management, climate risk assessment, adaptation planning and climate financing.

The department of Water resources and Delta Management (WDM) is involved in a wide range of projects. In the Netherlands we work for The Delta Commissioner, Rijkswaterstaat and the Water Boards. However the largest share of our work is international. We are active in projects in South East Asia, Latin-America, USA and Africa. Furthermore, we participate in H2020 research and innovation projects for the European Union. We develop and apply new approaches and tools for integrated water resources management and to support decision making under uncertainty and to help our clients to make their plans and investments more climate resilient.

The department currently consists of 37 specialists and advisors from different disciplines (e.g. Hydrology, Economy, Governance, Physical Geography and Climatology) one third with a PhD. The department is located in Delft, the Netherlands.
