The department Hydraulics for Infrastructure & Industry which is embedded in our Hydraulic Engineering unit is looking for expansion of the team with an enthusiastic:


Advisor/Researcher Water & Energy Projects


Deltares supports governments, industries, water boards, and municipalities in their ambitions to reduce water and energy consumption and developing and implementing sustainable energy technologies. At our department, we do this by identifying innovations, and by initiating and carrying out new strategic projects on geothermal energy, tidal energy and smart control of water and energy infrastructure. Together with our experts on surface water and the underground we develop multifunctional, robust innovative technologies for future sustainable heating and cooling systems and multi-commodity networks. Projects can have both a research and consultancy character, but always aim at delivering ready-to-use knowledge, engineering and optimization tools, methods and applications for our clients in the water and energy sector.

The job
Your main activities are to work closely with senior advisors and:
• Initiate (joint-industry) projects with a focus on district heating and cooling, geothermal energy, tidal energy and smart control of energy infrastructure
• Prepare attractive research and project proposals
• Grow and maintain a network with internal and external key stakeholders and knowledge partners
• Carry out R&D and advisory projects to further develop knowledge and tools
• Explaining results in technical advisory reports to clients and in publications, client meetings and presentations, and preparation of marketing materials


Your profile
• You have an MSc in Civil or Mechanical Engineering, Applied Physics, or similar
• 5-10 years working experience in a technical/consultancy environment, preferably with a focus on energy and water
• You are self-driven, pro-active and somebody who jumps at opportunities to take the initiative and do not give up easily
• You enjoy using your excellent analytical skills to assess ideas with engineering calculations and models
• You like to engage with people and will be able to identify interests of different technical and non-technical stakeholders
• You enjoy delivering high quality both content-wise and in look-and-feel
• You are fluent in Dutch (mandatory) and English in speaking and writing


The team
The department Hydraulics for Infrastructure & Industry is formed by approximately 25 enthusiastic and highly skilled professionals based in Delft, The Netherlands. We combine concrete practical relevance with high standards for quality in applied R&D and specialist consultancy projects. We achieve this by continuous development of state-of-the-art knowledge and techniques, combined with a high level of client interaction. For client meetings, you will sometimes be travelling abroad.
