For our unit Deltares Software Centre (DSC) we are looking for a:

Junior Software Engineer

The Deltares Software Centre (DSC) develops numerical simulation software, where we make use of various techniques such as flexible grids, high performance computing, modelling frameworks and game engines. The Software Product Development (SPD) department of DSC works on the development of high quality software products. Recent examples are the Statutory Assessment Instruments for the national flood defense systems (WBI) and the D-Hydro software suite, a package that is specially geared towards the modelling of coastal areas, estuaries, rivers and rural and urban areas. Our staff works with modern development techniques such as Agile, TDD and XP. The user interfaces are written in C#, the numerical simulation software in Fortran and early warning systems in Java. We also use Python and C + +. The specialists in the various disciplines of Deltares are closely involved in the specification and validation of new software.

The position will be based in Delft.

What can you expect in the position of a Junior Software Engineer
• You develop user-friendly scientific software tools for water and soil research.
• You work together with scientific software engineers and specialists on product development in a scrum team.
• You analyse the software requirements together with product owners and specialists.
• You accelerate and renew existing simulation models by using the latest IT opportunities.
• You explore the possibilities of data science and new technologies, such as cloud computing, for application in the field of delta technology.

What do we expect from you as a Junior Software Engineer

  • You have completed an MSc or Higher Education Course in Computer science (or related field), you have affinity with natural sciences and you have experience in software engineering. You aim to develop high-quality software in a scientific environment.
  • You are result oriented and are willing to commit yourself to a deadline (together with a team).
  • You have experience in C # and preferably other higher order programming languages (Java, Python, C + +).
  • You preferably have a good knowledge of topics like software architecture, Continuous Integration, Unit Testing, UML and concepts like Object Oriented Programming (OO).
  • You are eager to work on new technological challenges.
  • You have experience in developing innovative solutions for complex problems.
  • You have good social and communication skills.
  • You work well independently as well as in a team.
  • You speak English fluently.
  • You speak Dutch, or you are willing to learn Dutch.
