Senior database specialist

The job
The department of Software, Data management and Innovation (SDI) of the unit DSC focuses on new applications of data in the area of water and subsurface. Recent examples include the development of a data-architecture for the national assessment tool (WBI) to evaluate the Dutch flood defences and the Aqua Monitor that shows where over the past 30 years water has been transformed into land (and the other way around), based on openly accessible satellite data and Google Earth Engine. Data management and open data are key issues, as are quality control and versioning. The FAIR-principles are adopted.

As a database specialist you work together with colleagues in software engineering, developing numerical models and (interactive) visualisations, and facilitating computing and storage of data in the cloud. You are the data management point of contact for specialists of the other departments of Deltares. Furthermore, you closely cooperate with the ICT department, because of the important connection with hardware and hardware development.

Job qualifications

  • You have an MSc degree and a minimum of 7 years of work experience with professional software development.
  • You have experience with PostgreSQL / Oracle/SQLServer, PentahoDI, GIS, Linux and Windows, and developer tools like Subversion and TeamCity.
  • You are experienced in structuring data streams for simulation software and operational systems.
  • You take initiatives, work independently and have good planning skills.
  • You have excellent communication skills and can connect system administrators, domain experts, software developers and stakeholders.
  • You appreciate to complete products according to quality requirements.
