The Transport Infrastructure team is looking for a:

Medior Scientific Geotechnical Engineer

Approximately 110 enthusiastic professionals form the unit Geo-Engineering. We work on various projects in the fields of utilities, transport and rail infrastructure, levees, dams and dikes, offshore and building in urban and industrial environments. In specialist consultancy projects we combine concrete practical relevance with high standards for quality. We achieve this by continuous development of state-of-the-art knowledge and techniques, combined with a high level of client interaction. We closely cooperate with Deltares specialists on geology, geophysics, software engineering, water management and flood protection.

What can you expect as a Medior Scientific Geotechnical Engineer?

The mission of the Transport Infrastructure team is to have excellent understanding of built and maintained infrastructure in and on (soft) soils. We combine geotechnical knowledge with physical experiments and computational geotechnics. With this we can provide our clients state-of-the-art assessments for construction and asset management of infrastructure. Our clients are national and international organizations in the private and public sector. The current portfolio includes:

  • Developing geotechnical and geohydrological models for design and construction;
  • Modelling the impacts of climate change, (induced) earthquakes and soil subsidence on infrastructure;
  • Sensors, remote sensing and non-destructive methods supporting design and asset management;
  • Risk management.

Your main activities are:

  • Perform applied research and participate in consultancy projects
  • Lead challenging national and international projects
  • Write project proposals, write reports and present results to the client
  • Perform specialist activities such as numerical or probabilistic calculations, data-analysis, evaluation of physical experiments or software programming.
  • Being a specialist in either one of these fields, but actively communicate over these fields in order to achieve a next step in current practice.

What does Deltares expect from you as a Medior Scientific Geotechnical Engineer?
You finished your MSc or Doctorate in geotechnical engineering and you have around 5 years of practical experience in a professional environment. Your drive is to challenge the geotechnical engineering practice and you have excellent social and communication skills. You speak Dutch and you are a proficient user of English language. Being able to communicate over the boundaries of your own specialism is a must. You are self-driven, pro-active and do not give up easily. You are a real team player and do not shy away from self-reflection.

Working at Deltares
We offer an informal, dynamic and challenging working environment. Your personal development and building on your resume is important to us. Therefore we offer excellent training opportunities and future perspective. Further growth is possible, for example in a project team as scrum master, architect or project manager, but also in research or consultancy.

Our terms of employment are competitive, with a good pension scheme and 34 holidays. We have special facilities on our campus, like daily lunch lectures, the Delta Flume and our iD-lab.

Deltares is an independent institute for applied research in the field of water, subsurface and infrastructure. Worldwide we work on smart solutions, innovations and applications for people, environment and society. To achieve our goals, we develop our own expertise, innovative software and services.
