Wave Modeller (Advisor/Researcher)

The Coastal Structures and Waves department is formed by approx. 30 enthusiastic professionals working on various marine infrastructure projects. In Research & Development and non-standard consultancy projects we combine concrete practical relevance with high standards for quality. We achieve this by continuous development of state-of-the-art knowledge and techniques, combined with a high level of client interaction.

What can you expect as a Wave Modeller?
This position will give you the opportunity to work on challenging and innovative projects related to coastal engineering in general and hydraulic boundary conditions for the design and assessment of dikes and other hydraulic structures in particular. You will perform specialist advice and research in the field of coastal engineering / hydrodynamics (wave conditions, fluid-structure interaction, flood risk, probabilistic modelling). For a good performance you will use, develop and apply several types of numerical wave models such as CFD-models (e.g. OpenFOAM, SWAN, SWASH), to calculate hydrodynamic design conditions and forces on coastal structures. As a Wave Modeller you analyse field measurements for numerical model validation and you will assist and advice clients in developing safe, cost-efficient and sustainable flood defence structures. Besides that you will assist in innovative applications of the latest technology and products in this field. Not but not least you will publish your work in relevant journals and give presentations at conferences.

What do we expect from you as a Wave Modeller?
• You have an MSc or PhD in Civil Engineering (Coastal Engineering or Hydrodynamics), with excellent results;
• Preferably you have gained some working experience (max 6 years) in a similar job;
• You have good theoretical knowledge on hydrodynamic processes;
• You have (basic) programming skills;
• You are self-driven, pro-active and do not give up easily;
• Numerical modelling experience is required and physical modelling experience is beneficial;
• You are fluent in Dutch (mandatory) and English in speaking and writing;
• You are an entrepreneur and a good networker, you have a pro-active approach towards the market and knowledge development;
• A (growing) network in coastal engineering and/or flood risk related topics is beneficial;
• You are a real team player and do not shy away from self-reflection.
